CHICAGO The NBA Draft Combine continued on Wednesday, shifting to the scrimmages portion of the showcase.While it may feel wrong to place too much stock into one or two scrimmage games, try telling that to players like Denver Nuggets guard Bones Hyland or San Antonio Spurs guard Josh Primo, both of whom elevated their draft stock considerably after strong showings at last year's combine.With that in mind, there were a few standout players this year, starting with NC State's Terquavion Pedro Avila Jersey Smith, Purdue's Trevion Williams and Arkansas' Jaylin Williams in the first scrimmage. He put all of that on display in the first scrimmage, tallying a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds to go with five a sists.Even at 6-foot-9, 265 pounds, Williams showed he can grab a rebound, put the ball on the floor in transition His skill alone should be enough for a team to take a swing on him in the second round.Jaylin Williams' motor and physicality shine throughWilliams' final stat line of five points, six rebounds and five a sists does not do his performance justice. The Arkansas sophomore was the loudest player in the entire gym as his voice echoed around Wintrust Arena on every defensive po se sion.He played physical with Illinois' Kofi Cockburn inside and made a few savvy pa ses, including one sweet bounce pa s in traffic in the lane. He was also taking 3s with confidence, knocking down one 3-ball to show he can stretch the floor a bit.I noticed Williams' shooting stroke during the drills on Wednesday, and it was evident that he has been working on his shot. He's a confident dribbler and more shifty and slithery than I realized. He was confident attacking and showed he can do much more than just shoot from the perimeter.Vanderbilt's Scotty Pipper Jr.is a pest defensively. Concerns about his body aside, he's a heck of a basketball talent, moves much more swiftly than you would expect, has a solid handle and finished with good touch around the basket. Considering he's only 6-foot-6 with shoes on, .And his long arms were definitely the first thing that stuck out when seeing him in person.Williams had a few really strong finishes around the basket, letting the offense come to him on a 5-of-8 shooting night. He only played 14 minutes, but it was a quality sample size for a player whose draft stock is on the up.Christian Braun should be a first-round pickI had Braun going 30th overall to the Thunder , but any team in the late-first round could benefit from a player like the Kansas junior.Braun is far from just a spot-up shooter on the perimeter, and he showed that in the second scrimmage. He played physical on defense and made his usual impact on the gla s. He didn't finish around the rim all that well, but it's known he is capable in that area. It was the "other things" he did today to stuff that stat sheet that impre sed me.If he can become a more consistent shooter, he'll be able to enter an NBA rotation immediately as a 3-and-D guy.Other notesNC State's Dereon Seabronwas the game's leading scorer, tallying 17 points in a variety of ways. He was active without the ball, finding open spaces for easy layups or dunks as a cutter. He got to the free throw line, corralled a handful of rebounds and applied pre sure defensively. It was a strong showing from San Diego Padres Jersey the unheralded redshirt sophomore.G League Ignite's Michael Fostershould receive second-round looks as a small-ball center. At 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Foster moves so fluidly for his size. He held down the paint with three nice blocks and had an eye-catching play where he grabbed a board, pushed the ball up the floor and made a nice kick-out read for a 3. He didn't shoot the ball or finish inside very well, but the potential is there.New Zealand Breakers' Hugo Be sonlooked unphased by any sort of pre sure out there likely a product of playing profe sionally in the NBL. He's a smooth operator with the ball in his hands, using creative dribble moves off the bounce to get by his defender. Be son had a few sweet pa ses, for an easy layup. He has a great feel for the game and is certainly a better shooter than he showed today (1-5 3PT).
